Sentry gives 26 dB of noise reduction (manufacturer rating) and compresses anything over 82 dB in 0.5 ms. That covers most outdoor hunting. For indoor ranges, short barrels or muzzle brakes, double up with muffs over the top, as NIOSH recommends for very loud shooting.
Outdoor mode amplifies the most, so it also hears the most wind. On a windy day, switch to Indoor mode with one press. A good seal also cuts wind noise, which is another reason fit matters.
